Talk: Sat. 18th, 8pm – Dr. Marie Mc Loughlin and Dr. John Crumlish

Dr. Marie Mc Loughlin was born and raised in Carndonagh. She began her teaching career at St. Patrick’s BNS, Carndonagh, and in later years became the Vice-Principal there. Marie worked in a number of Irish and international school and spent her later years in a DEIS School. In 2000, marie joined the Primary Curriculum Support Service (PCSP) rising up the ranks to Assistant National Coordinator and subsequently National Coordinator of the organisation, providing support to teachers.

In 2008, Marie was appointed President of Froebel College of Education. On closure of this college, Marie then facilitated the merger of the college with NUI Maynooth, forming the newly established Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education within NUI Maynooth, which is now at the centre of Irish teacher education.

Dr. John Crumlish was born and raised in Carndonagh. In the early 1980s, John went to Galway and graduated with a degree in Psychology. He completed a post-graduate course and taught Psychology in Derry. However, he never got galway out of his system so he went back and became involved in the Arts Festival, and even joined a band called ‘The Sleepwalkers’. His first job with the Arts Festival was as a volunteer, but he eventually became a production manager with the festival in the 1990s.

John then got involved with Macnas and later formed Mac Teo, where the team undertook corporate work throughout Ireland promoting the arts. He returned to the Galway Arts Festival as CEO in 2003. The festival begain in 1978 but has now gained a phenomenal international reputation and following. John was a member of the Arts Council from 2006-2013, the Fáilte Ireland West forum 2010-2013 and was a board member for the national event, ‘The Gathering’. Presently he remains the chair of the Galway 2020 Steering Group. John “is a convincing ambassador for the arts and culture in Galway”.
